Young people from our London Futures programme took part in a brilliant workshop with one of our partners, Falkus Joinery. After an introduction to joinery and the different variation of jobs the trade has to offer, young people then learned about the different materials and machinery used at Falkus. They worked alongside professional joiners to assemble their own stalls, which had been pre-cut in advance, then used a range of tools to assemble their individual piece.
The workshop with Falkus Joinery inspired one of our young people, Kwamaine, to go on to college to do a Level One Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery, which is a City & Guilds qualification.
Enthused by his experience at Falkus Joinery and motivated by the course, Kwamaine has started pursuing a career in carpentry and joinery. Kwamaine said:
“I chose this course because I like meeting new people, learning new skills and I am very enthusiastic about building things. I was inspired by the workshop I attended at Falkus Joinery in February and it has really driven me to strive to work towards a future career in carpentry and joinery”.
Falkus Joinery were delighted to hear the news that Kwamaine is taking his qualification in carpentry and joinery and have very kindly offered their support with Kwamaine’s coursework. Will Burn, Commercial Director at Falkus Joinery, said:
“Its brilliant news that Kwamaine got real value out of the workshop and we’re thrilled that he’s been inspired enough to pursue a career in joinery.”
