Lauryn is one of our Young Ambassadors and a graduate from both our Girls Win and London Futures programmes. She originally joined Girls Win to gain confidence and make new friends as she had recently moved from a different area and was feeling quite isolated as she had yet to make any new friends or engage in any social clubs.
Over the last two years, Lauryn has become a role model to the other young women on Girls Win with her positive nature and never give up attitude. She developed new meaningful friendships and discovered new activities to engage in such as, dance, multi-sports mixed ability sessions, and youth leadership groups.
When becoming a Young Ambassador in March 2020, she has used her compassionate approach and creative flair to contribute her ideas and lived experience to numerous Change Foundation pilot projects, such as, 12 Rounds anti-knife crime boxing project, TCF Wellness Walks for young parents and virtual disability sports inclusion sessions. Her leadership skills and contribution to the community landed her the Recognising You Award in 2020. As well as this, she helped the Young Ambassadors fundraise over £1000 to distribute care packages to hostels and delivered Christmas presents to disadvantaged children throughout the pandemic. Lauryn’s mum says:
“Lauryn is really bouncing with a lot of confidence. Honestly, I am so very proud of her and looking forward to seeing her mould her own future.”
Maddy Ford, The Change Foundation Women and Girls Programme Manager says:
“Lauryn is an incredible young woman who has shown so much development over the time that I have been lucky enough to work with her. She has massively increased her confidence when speaking to new people and adapting to new situations. She is so kind, caring and considerate of all her peers and is an excellent role model to other young women. We are so proud of the skills that Lauryn has developed and we believe that she has a very bright future in whatever career she chooses to pursue.”
